today's youtube find

i found this performance of Air to be quite inspiring. i really do hope i can play like John McMurtery. i have the sheet music to this piece, so maybe tonight when i practice i'll give it a shot. lately i've been playing an anderson etude (i have no idea which one) which is mostly based on 16th note runs that go into minor melodic/harmonic scales. i've gotten about halfway through it where i call it quits before it goes into double sharps and flats, so i'm just working on the easier (to read) part right now.

but that air piece, that is really tempting to just throw everything else down and say, you know what, screw it i'm going to play that and only that. because truly, if i started that piece now i think i'd just only play that. i attempted it about a year ago but got through the first line only because i'd never had a recording of it. the time changes and just even the style of it are ridiculous, it incorporates sounds that i can produce on my flute that i dont even know the name of. as i said, ridiculous. this sheet music isn't from the same takemitsu song, but it's the same style. except air is much more... compact.
